The Healing Power of the horse

Tap into the healing power of the Horse

The horse is the central figure for all human development work at Belvoir. Twelve hundred pounds of power and beauty in motion, the horse is over ten times the size of an average human being. And yet, there is a strong emotional and curative bond between us.

Why does this relationship work?

Humans are predators, but horses are prey animals. As prey, they have to be fully aware of the larger environment around them to protect themselves. Their life depends upon exercising these talents and one of their great strengths is that they can run and run fast. In a world inundated with rapid-fire technologies and responses, horses have plenty to teach us about how to reclaim our diminished right-brain capacity for empathy, creativity and compassion.

Belvoir’s Equine Experiential Learning programs

“Through learning by doing, new neural pathways can be created to change behaviour patterns, and learn new more effective ones.”

Our Equine programs integrate many of the Neuro-Equine Model approaches and philosophy of Dr. Allan Hamilton, a Harvard-graduate brain surgeon and horse trainer and author of Zen, Mind Zen Horse: The Science and Spirituality of Working with Horses. Combined with a heart centred approach that incorporates groundbreaking research conducted by the Institute of HeartMath on how horses can positively affect humans our program will facilitate the reconnection of your heart and soul to create new and profound insights that inspire healing and growth. It is a leading edge modality which involves the horses’ willing participation as partners in assisting humans to discover their potential. Interacting on the ground with a horse and at the same time learning basic horsemanship skills is a unique time of discovery and reflection which raises consciousness for both humans and horses.  Learn More…

All Equine Activities are on the Ground. No previous experience with horses necessary.

“Horses do not see us as our collective stories but simply as we are standing in front of them. The horse brings its uncanny ability to peel our egos back, to strip the layers away like an onion, until we find ourselves awkwardly naked and vulnerable. But the horse also shows us the joy that comes from living with the bare truth of ourselves. What a gift that is.”

Angela DeVrie during a private session with Chanel

“In just five sessions with the horses I experienced a powerful shift says Angela DeVries. I began to feel myself again but this time I loved how I felt. I experienced deep genuine gratitude, trust, joy, happiness, playfulness, decisiveness, awe, and even power. The experience has uniquely altered the direction of my life. I know how cliche this sounds, but I am 100% sincere when I say this. From the bottom of my heart thank you, thank you, thank you.” Angela DeVries
